Worthington High School Educational Information: A long list of student honors at the state and national levels attests to the success of our academic and co-curricular programs. The average scores of Worthington students on standardized achievement tests of basic skills are consistently between the 70th and 80th percentiles nationally. Results on the state proficiency tests are generally among the top 10 percent in the state. Average scores on college-entrance exams are well above state and national averages, and recent results are among the highest in many years.
In 2001 Worthington's two high schools were rated among the best in central Ohio by Columbus Monthly magazine, which evaluated 22 area suburban high schools. Worthington was the only school district to have both of its high schools ranked in the top five. Nearly 90 percent of our graduates continue their education after high school with at least three-fourths attending a four-year college or university. They earn millions of dollars in scholarship offers each year. In addition, our high schools' academic and athletic teams as well as our vocal, instrumental music and theater groups are consistently among the best in the region and state. Worthington is the only Franklin County district to meet every standard on the state report card seven years in a row. Such accomplishments do not happen by accident: it takes a dedicated group of professionals who care about children and their future. This is the hallmark of Worthington Schools. While we are continually making improvements in how and what we teach, we have never lost sight of the basics. Our elementary school curriculum provides a strong foundation in reading, writing, math, science, citizenship and the arts. We're also teaching the basics in how to solve problems, how to make good decisions and how to work together with others. The middle and high school programs build upon this foundation and provide more options to meet the individual needs and interests of our students. Worthington has grown from a log cabin community to a preschool, 11 elementary schools, four middle schools plus an alternative middle school, two high schools and one alternative high school program serving students from both high schools. Furthermore, Worthington has one of the most ethnically diverse student populations among suburban school districts in central Ohio. Approximately 7 percent of our students are Asian, about 6.6 percent are African American, about 3.3 percent are Hispanic, and about 0.2 percent are American Indian. The district has approximately 270 students with limited English proficiency who speak approximately 30 different native languages.
